Wonderful app but the big downside is that you’re talking to multiple people at once about different things so it’s kind of confusing trying to keep up depending on how aggressive the other person is about teaching you the language, which is great But also still very confusing .

This is so great. I get to talk to somebody—a native speaker who just wants to help me learn. And I don’t even have to pay money. This is awesome. I guess it’s an exchange. I am helping her to improve her English, but I mean it’s so easy and it’s nice to be able to help someone else. It’s a win.

This application could have been awesome but unfortunately they stop all progression behind paywalls. You can’t put up more than one language you can’t see certain people they won’t let you talk to them or translate a lot without you paying but I find that I can muddle through in an effective manner. However the first person to allow free talk is going to just straight out them out of businesss. Finally as a native speaker of a language I shouldn’t have to certify it. Sadly they don’t do anything on here for you that you can’t do for yourself relatively cheap and or free .

some advice was to get on exchange apps like Tandem. I’ve used Tandem last year for other languages and had lots more successful conversations and people willing to chat and correct. However a year later in my new target language it seems to be the complete opposite I reach out to people with similar interesting discussion topics and would get left on read/ignored. Ive had a few reach out in English and when i engage in the target language, no response Some people full on just do not even acknowledge my attempts to speak in the target language and want to talk in English. Others just stop responding after a few messages in either language Not a great app if you want quality. Also lots of ads, unusable if free

I purchased a subscription and immediately canceled it, but I never got a refund. The app referred me to Apple for the refund, but Apple responded that they couldn’t do anything. Be very careful when purchasing because you will never get your money back. I do not recommend this app at all.

I used to love this app so much but now you have to pay for everything and it’s not even worth it to use anymore. Why should I have to pay to call anyone. The whole point is to be able to communicate with people without having to use other apps. You don’t even like when we talk about other apps on tandem so why should I have to pay for something that used to be readily available before. Please go back to the old system where we were able to see who was online and being able to call people without paying. Or else there is no reason to keep using this app

I used to practice English there but now a text pops up every time I try to get in like I’m in a waitlist and they have to look my “application”, which is stupid because I had already an account. I tried multiple ways to get in but I couldn’t and since then I can’t practice with my friends.

Literally anyone can bother you on this app, there is NO WAY to stop receiving messages from weird people that don’t even know your language and don’t want to learn yours, they just message you. I don’t know how many people I have had blocked on this app and when you report someone they do nothing.

The review time is too long. I want to try other methods or uninstall the App, but I can only continue to review and can‘t quit.

I can't believe how badly this app frustrates me now. I used to use it all the time; I've made so many friends who've genuinely changed my life from all across the world across so many different language barriers. I can't thank this app enough for that; but now almost every useful feature is behind a pay wall and it's absolutely ridiculous. It's also gotten really buggy and advertises a lot of sketchy crypto stuff.

First of all I really enjoy Tandem and it wasn’t for the app malfunctions I’d probably give it a 5 star. The biggest issue is that A LOT of times when trying to join a party I get a black screen after watching the ad. I cannot see who is in the party and cannot request/accept request to speak…only hear the people talking. I try to close the app and reopen when that happens but it doesn’t quite fix the issue. It’s only by luck that I may get into the party successfully. Going through that discourages me from even getting on the app at all. I reported the issue today with a screen recording. I’m hoping this is resolved ASAP or I’m going to have to leave as the individual chats are not that beneficial in my opinion. I don’t want to leave though because I’ve met some really nice people through parties. Please fix this issue.

I had a few people keep spamming me with offensive comments. I asked them if they had a life and I got in trouble for that. What a joke. I won’t be renewing my subscriptions.

Tandame was great before update now we can’t call anyone. I understand to charge more for extra languages but to implement it on voice call that’s insane.

This app is a complete failure and doesn’t help anyone learn languages. It’s just a platform for fake friendships. The features are poorly designed, and it doesn’t provide any real value for language learners. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone serious about learning a new language.

I had reported this issue a couple of months ago yet it’s still not fixed. I initially created my Tandem account via WeChat. However, the recent upgrades made it unable for me to login. The issue still persists at the time of this writing. Please help fix the issue (especially when WeChat is still shown as one of the login options). I hope my account is still intact despite I can’t login for months!

The ads that pop up every time you click something really ruin the experience and the only way to get rid of them is to sign up for the subscription service . I shouldn’t have to pay to filter by country either that feature used to be free on tandem ! Like most apps greed ruined this one !

Just brain rot conversations in these parties. People here really don’t care. All bots.

Tandem has built a culture of hypersensitivity. The core focus of the app is mundane exchanges taking turns nitpicking each others grammar. This is done to a point that the vast majority are too self conscious to actually speak the language (the way language learning actually happens) JUST USE AI AT THAT POINT. If you want language learning to feel like homework Tandem is for you!

Great site to learn languages and great people

You have to watch an ad to see profile photos, open chats, or find people in your location, basically for everything. You’ll only get messages from bots or perverts. I don’t recommend it.

Incredible versatility with the ability to switch back-and-forth between different languages in one conversation, and the voice recognition systems are truly phenomenal. Actions are linked by behaviors which are formed from an instinctual basis.

Original review: Audio quality is determined by your mic, not the app. It’s very easy and fast to connect with people and start chatting. It would be nice to archive conversations, but at least the most active ones are presented first. The app has formulated conversation starters which are often accidentally misused and abused by non-English speakers. These need to be removed or have translations to other languages so people know what they are saying. Latest: Mostly this is a global text chat, so the people you try to converse with can be quite fleeting. I feel like most people aren’t really committed to learning, and the app does little to connect people of similar interest. You might as well find conversation on other social media where you can have something more to say than “Hello. How are you?” before you’re both bored.

there are ads every few seconds in as many areas as possible. ads are added to members’ profile pictures. some previously free features now under pro.

Be sure to filter for eliminating romantic advances:) unless that is what you seek. I found a lovely friend overseas. We encourage each other learning each other’s language , share our cultures & friendship. I am grateful this app introduced us.

There are too many Spanish dialects to list them all, so they simply put Spain. That’s understandable. But there are only 2 main styles of Portuguese: Brazil and Portugal. These need to be listed separately and not only Brazilian. Yes, they are different enough that sometimes they have trouble understanding each other. It’s like high German and Swiss German. They can understand each other, but they are still different enough to be listed as 2 separate languages. It’s not like different English or Spanish countries. Portugal and Brazil are different enough to where yes, they really can be taught differently with both word usage and grammar. This app needs to add Portugal and not only Brazil. Do you list Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and 2 different languages to learn? Yes. So, do that with Portugal as well. It’s not the same language. It’s different enough to be listed as its own.

Tandem was fun and a good app in the past. Now its features are so pay restricted and riddled with ads, the experience is awful. Now it's just another hellotalk.

I really enjoy Tandem. It’s a great way to learn a new language or enhance it. I took a star off simply because there are so many glitches and they keep getting worse. It’s unfortunate. So many members complain about it .Reporting bugs doesn’t seem to be affective. It really takes some enjoyment out of it. I thought it might have been my smartphone, but it also does it on my iPad. There are so many bugs I don’t know where to start. Also a lot of fake profiles.

The app was pretty great for meeting other passionate language learners how ever the update has crushed smaller language communities and how most people only put their major languages as to get more matches

I’ve only been using the app for about an hour, but I was already matched with several Spanish language partners! (Some of the people who messaged me seemed to be men interested in…other things, but I was able to weed them out and talk to the women who messaged me!)

Basically no one talks to you unless they are sexually attracted to you. I even paid for Pro a few times and did literally nothing for me. This app isn’t seriously geared towards language learning at all, especially since it requires a real photo of you. The app was pretty good when it came out, I thought it was better than HelloTalk but HelloTalk continued adding features and tandem just did nothing but stay the same. The tap to hold menu takes forever to open up which makes it annoying to correct people or make comments The comment screen opens up a whole new screen and doesn’t carry over your message. You guys can do better, you just need to try at least a little bit.

I think that every update in the last year two has said that the bugs have been fixed. However, many bugs still remain. Parties crash all the time, people lose their sound, peoples pictures show up and parties when they’re not actually there. Etc. Lots of other random glitches as well.

I have been using tandem for five years now. Although since 2025, now we just can add only one language for learning,Not able to add 8 languages like before, This is the only thing I am not satisfied with,But I still give you 5 stars. I'm from China

It’s fine. It’s not necessarily better than competitors. You can’t choose more than 1 learning language now unless you give them money which is insane. The only reason I used it over hellotalk. Hellotalk has like this social media feed type thing going for it, so I think I’ll switch back to that

The app is again and again poping to add payment details , i want to use it free

For the ones who actually use the app to help it is a great app if used in the proper way. The other half is guys asking for your whatsapp information and wanting to hook up. Video call and getting upset when you don’t care to do anything more than learn the language you care to. I’d changed my photo to La Giulietta statue to prevent people from talking to me just because they think I’m attractive and just when I finally found some great communications to help and for me to learn from. My account was blocked from obviously the guy(s) who didn’t like that I stopped messaging him on WhatsApp because he kept asking to video call and seemed to know English quite well and another who was upset that I did not want to fly out to visit him during my upcoming visit to that country.

Is the worst app I ever used I got banned without knowing why I wrote a message a moderator, they told me the they have evidences that I perjured the príncipes of the community and I ask to see evidences and they never showed to me , they just told me that they never going to to accept a future request to make a new account in the future is the first time I felt discriminated in a app , they give the option to another user to banned you thats totally not sense , I will never recommend this app

Clowns are running this app. I downloaded it last year to make a profile to help me find friends to learn Turkmen. I sit and wait for 2 weeks, for them to tell me my email was banned. Funny because nobody has ever made an account with it on here until I did. They refused to allow me to make my account so I just went to HelloTalk.

Please allow to learn more than 1 language? I am actually learning up to 3 languages but I can’t because it was restricted lately

Switch the setting to most recent reviews before downloading. I’m deleting it before I even open it. Not worth comment after comment of negative reviews. Sounds like it used to be great.

It’s annoying to have to scroll through all the languages to find the one I want. They should stack the languages on top of each other for the voicerooms. Also the ad placement is not good. They should have it pop up when people are in the room as a pop up, instead of every room we enter and exit has a ad. It takes quite a few tries to even find a room to chat in, but during that process if I keep seeing ads over and over, it makes me want to get off this app. This is the main reason I don’t use this app very often.
